Service candidates who have been recruited in Tamil Nadu Medical service through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and serving currently in DME (Director of Medical Education), DRHS (Director of Rural Health Services), DPH (Director of Public Health), DRHS-ESI (Director of Rural Health Services-Employee State Insurance) and DFW (Director of Family Welfare) only will be considered as service candidates.

N O T I F I C A T I O N
1. Applications are invited for the Entrance Examination for admission to Medical Post Graduate Super Speciality Courses, Kerala 2009 in the Medical Colleges at Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Kozhikode in the following Specialities.

2. Eligibility for Admission:
(a) Nativity
(i) The applicant should be an Indian citizen
(ii) Should have passed the Post Graduate degree (MD/MS/Dip. N.B) from any of the Medical College recognized by the Medical Council of India
(iii)Should have done at least one year compulsory rural service/senior residency /Government Service in any of the Government Medical Colleges/Government Hospitals in Kerala.
(iv)In case sufficient number of candidates fulfilling the condition as per (iii) above is not available, candidates who are otherwise qualified will also be considered, based on the merit in the entrance test.
(v)Only candidates who have passed out from the Medical Colleges in Kerala will be first considered for preparation of rank list. In case, sufficient number of candidates in the above category is not available for admission for any reason, candidates from other states will be considered for the balance seats, based on the merit in the entrance test.
(b) Academic qualifications:
(i) M.B.B.S. Degree
(ii) Appropriate Post Graduate Degree (MD/MS) or appropriate Diploma of National Board. The M.D./M.S. Degree should be obtained from any University in Kerala or from Universities outside Kerala in which case they should be recognized as equivalent by Universities in Kerala. Service candidates who have appeared or appearing for MD / MS Examination can also apply. They should submit their P G Degree Certificate at the time of Counseling.
(iii) Registration: Candidates should have got their M B B S and P G Degrees registered permanently with State [T. C.] Medical Council and the proof should be submitted at the time of Counseling.
(iv) Age: Upper age limit for General Merit Candidates will be 45 years and it will be 47 years for Service Candidates, as on the last date of submission of Application (13.06.2009).
3. Selection and Entrance Examination: Candidates desirous of being considered against General seats will have to appear for the Entrance Examination to be conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Thiruvananthapuram. All General Merit quota candidates shall have to qualify the Entrance Examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala by securing minimum of 50% marks. For Service candidates the eligibility will be as per the provisions of Kerala Medical Officers Admission to Post Graduate Courses under service quota Act
2008.Accordingly the selection of service candidates will be based on the seniority in service and they do not have to appear for the Entrance Examinations. The Entrance Examination will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram on 27.06.2009 (Saturday) and
28.06.2009 (Sunday).
It will consist of two Papers, each of one and half hours durationand the questions will be of objective type (Multiple Choice Questions). Appearance inPaper I and II of the Entrance Examination is compulsory for admission to the course.
Details regarding the courses, eligibility are given in the Prospectus issued by theDirector of Medical Education (DME).
4. Application forms: Prospectus and Application form will be available from
23.05.2009 onwards in the website “www.cee-kerala.org” (See Clause VII of the
Prospectus). The Application procedure is common for General and Service candidates.Candidates seeking admission to this course can apply in the on line application form provided in the website “www.cee-kerala.org” of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations and then remit the required fee at any SBT Branch. Candidates residing outside Kerala state can remit the application fee by way of demand Draft drawn from any nationalized bank in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, payable
at Thiruvananthapuram. Application fee for General/Service candidates is Rs.1500/-. Service candidates who seek admission under General Quota also, should pay a total amount of Rs.3000/- [Please see Clause VII (a)]. Application forms will not be sold from the office of the CEE or office of the DME. Application fee once remitted will not be refunded under any circumstances.
Last date and time for receipt of filled-in application forms: Candidates, seeking
admission should take a print out of the application form, affix passport size photograph duly attested by the candidates in the space provided, and forward their completed application with all the required documents, including original bank voucher, mentioned in clause VII (d) of the prospectus to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations,
Housing Board Buildings, Santhinagar, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 001, either by Registered Post, by Speed Post or Hand Delivery so as to reach him before 5 pm on 13.06.2009 [Saturday]. ISCCM One year Diploma in Critical Care

ISCCM Courses
Types of courses
The one year ISCCM certificate course in critical care will now be called the Indian Diploma in Critical Care (IDCC) and will continue in a modified form for students interested in a shorter training course.
One - year post diploma course Indian fellowship in Critical Care (IFCC) that is similar to post graduate training in critical care offered by the DNB or by similar courses abroad. The competencies & training for this course will be a modified version of the recommendations of the CoBaTrICE initiative. The CoBaTrICE is an international project initiated by the ESICM for standardizing training & assessment in intensive care. The ISCCM played an active part in the CoBaTrICE project which was completed in September 2006.
Duration of Course
Duration of the Indian Diploma in Critical Care course (IDCC) will be one year for MD/MS/DNB candidates and 2 years for DA/DTCD or equivalent candidates. Students will need to produce certificate of equivalence either from the MCI or state medical council.
Duration of the Indian Fellowship in Critical Care course (IFCC) is for one year post-IDCC
IDCC candidates will be selected as below by the respective institutes based on their eligibility which should be confirmed by the individual teachers & institutes
“IFCC” candidates are selected after they pass the “IDCC” exam by recognized centres
Candidates shall be selected by the ISCCM recognized teachers of the institution

Candidates need to apply to the recognized institute of their choice directly (forms for IDCC and IFCC courses are available on website)
Candidates will require to be paid a salary/stipend as per the rules of the institute where they are appointed. This should be no different from the salary/stipend that other similarly qualified employees receive at that institute.

6. Selection of Candidate for D.M./M.Ch. Courses under Ordinance 278(D) will be made as per the procedure given below:-
1. Pre-Selection of candidates for these course will be made on the basis of multiple-choice questions carrying 80 marks. The Theory Examination is of 90 minutes duration. The questions will be from applied basic sciences and general subjects of Medicine (for DM) Surgery (for M.Ch.) directly or indirectly in reference with the concerned superspecialities of the standard of MD/MS Examination. Marking Scheme:– One mark will be awarded for each correct answer. One quarter mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. More than one answer for single will be considered as wrong.
2. Candidates found suitable on the basis of marks obtained in the theory examination will be required to appear in clinical/practical examination in the subject concerned. Separate merit lists will be prepared for each subject.
Clinical/Practical Examination Conducted by the Department concerned carries 20 marks. The general cases of the concerned superspeciality will be kept alongwith X-rays instruments and pathology specimens. Three senior members of the concerned department under the governorship of Head of department will conduct it.
4. Based on the aggregate marks obtained by the candidates for (i) Theory Paper and (ii) Clinical/Practical and Viva-Voce Examination, merit list will be prepared subject wise separately. The candidates will then be interviewed by the Selection Committee comprising of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the concerned super speciality for the purpose, which will recommend name of those found suitable for admission. The selection shall be finalized only after candidates are interviewed by the selection committee. The interview by the selection committee is mandatory. A candidate who is absent at the time of interview
will not be considered for admission. The interview with the selection committee does not carry any marks.

Retina Fellowship at AIMS, Kochi

Retina Fellowship Programme at AIMS, Kochi

The fellowship is for one year and will include a comprehensive training in diagnosis and management of common retinal disorders with exposure to surgical management as well. At the end of the training period we aim to make the candidate well versed in indirect ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography and OCT, all laser procedures using both slit lamp and indirect ophthalmoscope delivery systems, intravitreal injections, cryotherapy of anterior lesions and to be familiar with basic retinal surgeries-vitrectomy and buckling procedures.

ICMR INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) invites applications from Indian biomedical scientists for the international fellowships for the year 2009-10.  

Number of fellowships: Young scientists-12; Senior scientists-6

Duration: 3-6 months for young scientists and 10-15 days for senior scientists

Eligibility:

·          M.D/PhD degree with at least three years teaching/research experience for young  scientists and at least fifteen years teaching/research experience for senior scientists.

·          Regular position in a recognized biomedical/research/health institution in India .

·          Below 45 years of age for young and 55 years for senior scientists.

Financial support: 

US $ 2400 per month, contingency grant of Rs.15,000/- and return economy class air ticket (excursion airfare) for young scientists. US $ 160 per day (including US$ 75 as per diem and rest for accommodation expenses) and return economy class air ticket (excursion airfare) for senior scientists.

Note:- The applicant should submit a letter of acceptance from the foreign Institute where he/ she proposes to work along with a concrete plan of training / research work to be undertaken during the fellowship.

-    Recommendation by the Head of the parent organization / institute is essential.

-    Incomplete applications will not be entertained.

-    Decision of ICMR will be final.

-    If selected, the fellowship is to be availed before 31st March, 2010.

Objectives

Target participants
This workshop is intended for beginners in molecular biology and
bio-informatics, with a focus on ‘Pharmacogenomics’. A total of 30
participants will be admitted, preferably young/middle aged faculty
members and post-graduate students of pharmacology.
Course content
􀀉 The duration of the workshop is 6 days and will include practical
demonstrations and hands-on training in molecular biology
techniques such as DNA and RNA extraction, quality check and
quantification of DNA and RNA, the polymerase chain reaction -
restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), gel
electrophoresis: horizontal and vertical. Demonstrations of Real
time-PCR and DNA sequencer.
􀀉 Bioinformatics will include locating the gene sequence of interest,
identification of the PCR product, primer design, and selection of
the restriction endonucleases.
􀀉 Lectures will be held on the elements of medical genetics, Real time
PCR, DNA sequencing, high throughput screening for detection of
mutations, introduction to haplo analysis etc.
Workshop Fee
􀃔 The registration fee for the workshop is Rs. 1500/-.
􀃔 Food: Breakfast, Working lunch and tea & snacks will be provided
during the workshop. Participants will have to make their own
arrangement for dinner at their cost.
􀃔 Accommodation (Non-AC) will be provided (for 6 days from 06th
